Somatheeram Ayurveda Village is one of the best-known centres within the complex, and from the moment you enter, it is clear that this is not a conventional resort. The extensive grounds are set within a sloping tropical garden above the Arabian Sea and, with their architecture and layout, resemble a traditional Kerala village.
Individual cottages, communal areas and peaceful places for relaxation are scattered among coconut palms, mature trees and lush tropical vegetation. Pathways wind through the garden at different levels, while some parts of the resort offer views through the palms towards the coastline and the ocean. It is precisely this combination of greenery, traditional architecture and the sea that gives Somatheeram much of its distinctive character.

Simple and beautiful: the bungalows made of natural stone or brick are buildings typical of southern India. A bedroom with adjoining bathroom is waiting for the guests. All bungalows are equipped with air condition, ceiling fans, protective mosquito nets and mostly have welcoming bay windows. The Standard Cottages are located in the upper part of the resort. The advantage of this location is that it is ideal for guests with limited mobility. The paths to the Ayurveda clinic and the restaurant are short, there are only a few steps. Due to the closer construction, standard cottages are smaller than other room categories. With their simple, traditional design, they offer the most affordable way to enjoy an Ayurvedic treatment at the resort.

Special Cottage
The Special Cottages have a special charm: they are mostly round and have a roof made from palm leaves. Their extra attraction: the sea is virtually in front of the door. Depending on the location, you can look out over the water from your room or terrace. The cottages are predominantly detached and have their own outdoor sitting area. The interior includes a spacious bedroom with adjoining bathroom, air conditioning and ceiling fan.

Deluxe Cottage
The Deluxe Cottages are distinguished by their preferred location within the resort. Sitting in the bay window or on the terrace you can enjoy a fantastic view of the sea. Elegantly furnished, spacious and flooded with light through the bay windows, the Deluxe Cottages are our most modern accommodations. With their en-suite bathrooms, they meet the highest standards.

Kerala Standard Unit
Guests who stay in our Kerala Standard cottages for their Ayurvedic retreat will experience a special atmosphere: these historic buildings were once the homes of South Indian aristocrats. These richly decorated wooden houses have a long tradition and some are more than three centuries old. They have been meticulously restored and rebuilt at the resort. The Kerala Standard rooms feature a spacious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. Equipped with air conditioning and a private terrace, you can enjoy your wellness retreat here in traditional South Indian style.

In former times South Indian aristocrats were living in richly decorated wooden houses, nowadays our guests enjoy their holidays in these historical buildings. Some of our Kerala Deluxe Suites are more than three centuries old. After extensive restoration they were rebuilt in the resort. The Kerala Deluxe Suites have one bedroom and a spacious living room. The rooms are traditionally furnished and yet offer modern comfort. From your private terrace you can enjoy a wonderful view of the sea.

One of Somatheeram’s architectural landmarks is the large main building, designed in characteristic Kerala style with extensive wooden structures, open arcades and an elaborate traditional roof. The ground floor houses the spacious reception and communal areas, while the restaurant occupies the floor above. On the uppermost level there is a large hall dedicated to yoga and other group activities.
Architecture is one of the features that clearly distinguishes Somatheeram from many more contemporary Ayurvedic resorts. Traditional design is not limited to a few decorative elements but is reflected throughout much of the property, helping to create a coherent and authentic atmosphere.

Ayurvedic Cuisine as Part of the Treatment
Food is an important part of the stay. Meals are vegetarian, sattvic and prepared according to the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition. They are served as a generous buffet offering a wide selection of dishes, vegetables, soups, side dishes and other components of the daily menu.
Importantly, this is not an ordinary hotel buffet. Individual dishes are labelled according to their suitability for the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Guests can therefore select their meals in accordance with the recommendations of their Ayurvedic doctor, making nutrition an integral part of the therapeutic programme.
The restaurant itself is spacious and open towards the surrounding greenery, allowing even shared meals to remain closely connected with the tropical environment of the resort.
Space for Yoga, Relaxation and a Natural Daily Rhythm
A spacious yoga hall occupies the upper floor of the main building and provides a dedicated setting for regular group yoga sessions and other activities accompanying the Ayurvedic programme. Yet opportunities for relaxation extend throughout the entire resort – from the gardens and private cottage terraces to hammocks, the pool area and quiet corners beneath the trees.
