Ayur Prana Heritage
Marari, Kerala
Ayurvedic Retreat in the Heart of a Tropical Garden
Ayurprana Heritage is an intimate Ayurvedic centre in Mararikulam, in the coastal region of Kerala. Its main focus is individually designed Panchakarma, regular medical supervision and intensive daily care combined with yoga, meditation and a therapeutic diet.
One of the centre’s greatest assets is its setting. Individual cottages and smaller buildings are scattered throughout a lush tropical garden among coconut palms and other vegetation. Water is an important part of the grounds, with channels and larger water areas crossed by small bridges. Together with the abundant greenery, they create the atmosphere of a traditional Kerala residence.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
The day begins with approximately one hour of yoga. The main morning Ayurvedic treatment session lasts around ninety minutes, followed by lunch and a period of rest. A second therapeutic session of approximately one hour takes place in the afternoon, and the day concludes with evening meditation.
Guests therefore usually receive around two and a half hours of treatments per day. The retreat is particularly suitable for those who wish to devote a significant part of their day to treatment and regeneration rather than simply adding a few wellness treatments to a regular holiday.
Individually Guided Panchakarma
Each programme begins with a consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor. Based on the guest’s individual constitution – prakriti, current state of health and the purpose of the stay, a personalised plan of treatments, diet and daily routine is prepared.
Follow-up consultations take place throughout the stay, and the treatment programme may be adjusted according to the body’s response. Where appropriate, the preparatory phase may also include Snehapana – internal oleation with medicated ghee. However, this is not automatically included for every guest.
A comprehensive Panchakarma programme is offered primarily as a 14-day retreat. The exact combination of treatments is always determined by the doctor. Treatments take place in simply furnished therapy rooms equipped with traditional Ayurvedic facilities, including wooden treatment tables and equipment used for oil therapies.

Guests stay in individual cottages and smaller buildings set directly within the garden. Alongside simple single-storey cottages, the grounds also include more traditionally styled buildings with wooden elements, verandas and covered outdoor spaces. Instead of stepping out into hotel corridors, guests walk directly into the tropical greenery. The arrangement of the buildings creates a pleasant sense of privacy and allows much of the stay to be experienced in close contact with Kerala’s natural environment.
The rooms are simply and practically furnished in keeping with the local character of the property. Interiors feature wooden furniture, traditional-style tiled floors and other local design elements. They provide comfortable and practical facilities for a longer therapeutic stay and have private bathrooms. The centre is not designed as a luxury hotel resort; its main strengths are tranquillity, a personal atmosphere and its tropical garden setting.
-
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included and prepared with consideration for the ongoing treatment programme. Depending on the guest’s health condition, fresh coconut water or seasonal fruit may also be served.
The diet can be adapted for allergies and food intolerances. During Panchakarma, the doctor may temporarily restrict certain foods, including fruits that would otherwise normally be available.
The dining and communal areas are simple, airy and open towards the tropical garden. Wooden furniture and open architecture contribute to the informal character of the centre. The grounds also include a spacious covered yoga hall, open at the sides to the surrounding greenery and suitable for daily yoga practice as well as group activities.

Mararikulam lies in a landscape of coconut palms, waterways and coastal villages, close to a sandy beach. Depending on the course of treatment, the stay can be complemented by a houseboat cruise through the famous backwaters around Alappuzha or a visit to a traditional Kathakali performance.
For organised groups, a welcome and transfer from Cochin International Airport can be arranged.
